Pleural Mesothelioma

Rare form of cancer that starts in cells of the pleura, the lung surface. Pleural Mesothelioma is a rare form of cancer that starts in cells of the pleura, the lung surface. There is another condition of lung cancer. The lungs are located in the chest on each side of the heart. The lungs and inside of the chest are covered with a thin membrane called the pleura. These two membranes are separated by a space (pleural cavity) and a small amount of fluid (pleural fluid) that facilitate changes in lung volume during respiration. Lesions affecting the pleura or pleural fluid cause breathing difficulties.
